The California athletic department announced on Wednesday that Nike will become the official outfitter of the Golden Bears’ 30 varsity programs beginning on July 1.

“We are excited to enter into this new partnership,” athletic director Jim Knowlton said in a statement. “It will continue to elevate our brand while providing our student-athletes and staff the resources they need to compete at the highest level.”

Cal was previously outfitted by Nike from 2003 until it began a 10-year, $86 million contract with Under Armour in 2017. The company announced plans to terminate the contract in 2020, though, citing a lack of marketing benefits and financial difficulties associated with the pandemic.

Financial terms of the new three-year partnership with Nike have not been provided. It’s also unclear at this time if the basketball team will have Jordan Brand’s Jumpman logo on its uniforms, just like the Golden Bears did from 1998-2017.

With that, nine Pac-12 teams will be wearing Nike uniforms this fall, including UCLA (Jordan Brand) and USC, who will both move to the Big Ten in 2024. Arizona State and Washington are with adidas, while Utah is now the lone Under Armour holdout.
