The Seattle Seahawks announced earlier this week they will wear their 1990s-era throwback uniforms during their Oct. 29 against the Cleveland Browns.
The uniforms, which will be officially unveiled later this summer, feature silver helmets with a totem-style logo on the sides and a royal blue facemask, royal blue jerseys with white numbers and the aforementioned logo on the sleeves and silver pants with green, white and blue stripes.
We’ve known for more than six months that Seattle planned to wear the throwback uniforms this season, though the exact date wasn’t clear until the Seahawks revealed their themes for 2023, which includes honoring the 10th anniversary of Super Bowl XLVIII on Sept. 24 against the Carolina Panthers.
It’s appropriate the throwback uniforms will be worn against an AFC team, as the design was last worn in 2001, the final season before Seattle moved to the NFC and unveiled a new uniform set, which included a new shade of blue and monochromatic home design.
The Seahawks are 3-1 against the Browns at home in this uniform design, which was actually unveiled in 1983, including a 33-0 win in 1984, a 31-13 win in 1985, a 17-7 loss in 1989 and a 22-5 win in 1993. They’re also 2-0 in Cleveland, including a 16-10 win in 1988 and a 9-6 win in 2001.
Seattle is one of four NFL teams set to introduce throwback uniforms this season, joining the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans. Sources have indicated the Browns and the Indianapolis Colts will add new helmets to their existing throwback uniforms, as well.
