With a sonic blend that defies conventions, melding R&B, Rap/Hip Hop, and the Blues, she’s gearing up to shake the very foundations of the music industry.
Her grandfather, counting legends like the iconic BB King among his close associates, shared the magic of the guitar and harmonica, setting the stage for her incredible musical odyssey.
A profound and unwavering passion sparked by the captivating charm of R&B, Rap/Hip Hop, and the Blues formed the bedrock of Mika’s journey into music. The artist has been a creative force from a tender age, penning poetry and short stories since she was just 8 years old. Fast forward to age 12, her brother introduced her to the world of rap, igniting a fire that led to crafting her songs and locking horns in local battles and cyphers, a transformative journey that would shape her into the formidable persona known today as the “Black Butterfly.”
In 2019, Mika took an entrepreneurial leap, stepping into the world of spa and event space ownership. There, she tantalized palates with her culinary skills while exploring holistic products. However, her heart always resided in the realm of music, and in 2022, she answered the siren call by channeling her thoughts into musical gems.
Mika Got Barz’s musical repertoire defies categorization, effortlessly oscillating between pulsating party anthems, impassioned pleas to end Chicago’s violence, and sensually melodic compositions. Her live performances are a masterclass in eclectic energy, fusing elements of allure, sophistication, and just the right hint of edge, carving out a unique niche in the hip-hop universe.
All eyes are eagerly locked onto the horizon as her highly anticipated debut album, “Mixed,” is slated to drop on October 25th, 2022. Mika’s creative flair extends beyond lyrical finesse, with her taking the reins as director for several of her music videos, including beloved creations like “Mixed,” “Out My Character,” and “Litty in the City.”
In an industry bursting with talent, Mika Got Barz is a rising star whose distinctive sound and unique journey are set to leave an indelible mark on the hip-hop landscape. Stay tuned for what promises to be a remarkable musical journey with Mika Got Barz.
Today we had an exclusive chance to interview the upcoming artist, Mika Got Barz
How did you come up with your artist name?
Back in 2011 when drill was created in Chicago It was the thing to have your name and a phrase attached that described you. So I took Mika and added Got Barz.
How would you describe your latest single?
My latest single “Out My Character” has Chicago written all over it. It has a hardcore beat and real fortifying lyrics. The visual shows me recording the song releasing lots of built up aggression which has been added to the album.
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
Sometimes I write when I’m driving. When i come up with some barz I just pull over and jot them down. Other times I just wake up with songs in my head. It just come so easy to me.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
The title explains it all.The songs carry a mixture of all different emotions, situations, different beats, and different lyrics. All songs on the Mixed album all have a divergent message.
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Honestly both. The beats are attention catching. The lyrics will catch you by surprise and leave you saying did she really put those words together and just say that.
Whose your favorite six artists right now?
In no order, I’m really feeling The Weeeknd, Brent Fiyaz, Erykah Badu, Megan the Stallion, Lil Wayne, Trina.
What is your dream venue to perform at?
Me being A Chicago native, I would enjoy performing at La La Palooza. It make sense to show your city that you can follow dreams and still represent. The vibes at La La palooza is lit and I would love to experience that.
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
I would work with Timberland in a heart beat. His creations is masterpieces. I love the Melodie’s and every detail he puts into his beats.
What makes you different from other artists?
Some artist stick to what they know. I don’t mind venturing out to other challenging projects that can possibly make me a better artist musically. I’m the definition of making something out of nothing. Some care too much of what others think. I’ve been told to switch my style (look) up But I don’t mind flaunting pig tails and and bell bottoms because look at them now following the trends that I have set.
What is your main goal as far as music?
I hope to reach like minded mixed individuals like myself and share my experiences through music. I want my fan base to say I really can relate to this artist. The best thing to ever know is that I have helped someone dealing with personal issues to know that it is someone out here just like you.
In essence, Mika Got Barz is not just an artist but a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, poised to redefine the hip-hop landscape with her unique blend of beats, lyrics, and unwavering authenticity. Keep an ear out for her, as she’s undoubtedly on the path to stardom.
