In a hilarious segment on the episode, the duo answered host Jimmy Fallon’s questions about the Donald Trump administration’s financial policies with lyrics from their own songs. For instance, the comedian at one point asked, “Investors have their eyes on the stock market, but there is hope — right, Shaggy?”
In response, the reggae star sang a line from his 2000 track “Angel” featuring Rayvon: “Life is one big party when you’re still young, but who’s gonna have your back when it’s all done?”
Fallon then posited, “It’s hard to know what to invest in. Sting, what would be your advice?”
“We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky and invest in fields of gold,” the Police frontman crooned, a play on his 1993 hit “Fields of Gold.”
The late-night ringleader also included a certain Tesla CEO and Trump cabinet member in the sketch. “Meanwhile, when it comes to Elon Musk …,” Fallon began, at which Sting jumped in with a quote from his 1987 song “Englishman In New York”: “He’s an alien, he’s a legal alien.”
The sketch comes as the sitting president continues to befuddle many Americans with his focus on tariffs and his platforming of Musk’s push to cut federal workers while stock prices continue to plunge. A recent CNN poll found that a 56% majority of the public disapproves of Trump’s handling of the economy.
Also on The Tonight Show, Sting and Shaggy performed their new collaboration, “Til a Mawnin,” which dropped Feb. 27. Watch them sing about Trump’s economy and perform the duet below.
