Tetris Kelly:
Tragedy struck in the Dominican Republic on April 8th after the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed during a concert, killing 184 people and injuring more than 200. Cardi B and others are speaking out. Singer Rubby Pérez was performing when the tragedy occurred and has been reported dead at age 69. He was known for Billboard hits such as “Tu Vas a Volar.” Cardi B posted to her community, saying: “I’m in literal tears scrolling down my timeline seeing my Dominican people being rescued—some with lives and some gone. For the people who lost a family or a friend, don’t have bad memories. They left this earth singing and dancing and most likely happy and enjoying themselves, and that’s how the Lord will receive them.”
She added on singer Rubby Pérez: “It’s so heartbreaking to see one of our iconic artists, [Rubby] Pérez, leave in such a tragic way. I’m glad, though, our final memory of him was him sharing his beautiful voice with us.”
Prince Royce wrote: “My prayers for everyone affected by this big tragedy that happened at the nightclub in Santo Domingo. Peace and much strength.”
Natti Natasha added: “My beloved land, the Dominican Republic. Today we all woke up with broken hearts. From the depths of my soul, I share your pain. I am with you. We are in mourning.”
It is not yet known what caused the Jet Set’s roof to collapse. We will keep you posted at Billboard.com.
