Almost a year after Hot 97’s stunning overhaul s, Flex is finally responding to claims that he played a role in DJ Enuff’s departure. He did not say much at the time. The master of funk fired back with a barrage of explosive allegations.

Oh no! Not Lady Luck jumping into the comments and weighing in. She’s not even a big name artist in the same way as the others. Whatever she paid must have hurt her pockets a bit. But, let us take a step back.
If you remember, last summer’s restructuring claimed some of the station’s biggest personalities, including Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, Laura Stylez and DJ Enuff. At the time, rumors swirled that Flex could be next, but he survived the corporate shakeup. After leaving the station, Enuff believes Flex had something to do with his dismissal. Rosenberg publicly rejected that theory, suggesting the station’s corporate leadership wanted former colleagues pointing fingers at one another instead of the people making the decisions.
Now Flex has gone on offense.
He directly challenged Enuff with a series of pointed questions that suggested money changed hands for radio exposure.
“DJ ENUFF / HEAVYHITTERS I GOT U FIRED?” Flex wrote before asking whether French Montana allegedly paid $25,000 for a Heavy Hitters conference call, whether Maino allegedly paid $40,000 for mixshow playlist additions, whether N.O.R.E. was offered a discounted rate for spins, whether Myles Brando allegedly paid $10,000 to perform at a mixshow meeting and secure playlist placement, and whether DJ Wavy was asked to pay $2,500 for a Summer Jam Weekend slot.
These are major allegations, folks.
Flex did not provide evidence alongside the allegations, and none of the claims have been substantiated…yet.
Still, the accusations landed with tremendous force because they center on alleged payola, the illegal practice of accepting payment in exchange for airplay. Federal law prohibits undisclosed pay-for-play arrangements, and proven violations can carry significant financial penalties and, in some circumstances, criminal consequences.
As of this writing, DJ Enuff has not responded to Flex’s accusations.
