Bonnaroo Organizers Announce Cancellation of 2027 Festival To Allow Storm-Battered Grounds to ‘Rest and Recover’

After day three of this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival was hit by severe storms that caused a temporary evacuation of the site and the pushback and cancellation of several sets, organizers announced on Friday morning (Aug. 21) that they will be taking a year off in 2027.
“As you know, we spent a great deal of effort and money working to improve the campgrounds and Centeroo in the months leading into the 2026 festival,” read a message from the fest about the Manchester, Tenn.-based festival’s 700-acre spread. “That included improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways and 135 acres of new grass, all which strengthened The Farm’s resiliency to Mother Nature. With limited time to recuperate from back to back years of storms, including the heavy rainstorm on Sunday this year, The Farm, particularly the main venue, needs a break to rest and recover. “
For that reason, they’ve decided to skip next year’s event. “This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better,” the message continued. “We hope you’ll continue radiating positivity in your community throughout the year and thank you for loving this festival as much as we do.”
For the second year in the row, this June’s ‘Roo was impacted by severe weather that scrambled the final day of music. In the early afternoon of June 14, the festival told attendees that performances were being temporarily paused due to storms in the area, with fans informed to stay away from stages and large structures and shelter in place. A short time later they evacuated the Centeroo area out of an abundance of caution due to heavy rain and lightning.
The music cranked up again several hours later, but nearly a dozen sets were canceled, including Aly & AJ’s set, marking the second year in a row the duo were thwarted by weather at the festival. In 2025, Bonnaroo issued an evacuation notice on Friday night that the remainder of that year’s event was canceled due to severe weather after just one full day of music. The festival was also canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and briefly paused in 2023 due to torrential rainfall from Hurricane Ida.
