Ella Langley Is Mind-Blown as ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Makes Billboard Hot 100 History: ‘Absolutely Insane’

It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see that Ella Langley has the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 of all time — because on Tuesday (Sept. 22), the country star officially logged her 23rd week in the top spot with “Choosin’ Texas.”

Shortly after the chart news went live Tuesday morning, Langley reshared a graphic listing some of the previous record holders on her Instagram Story, alongside a teary-eyed emoji and a mind-blown emoji. “23 weeks,” the singer wrote. “Absolutely insane.”

Ella Langley Claims the Hot 100 Crown — But Could Mariah Carey Take It Right Back This Holiday Season?

“Choosin’ Texas” debuted on the U.S. songs chart in November 2025, entering at No. 39. No one could’ve predicted the wild life it would take on after that, first hitting No. 1 on the Hot 100 in February. Though some releases have dethroned Langley’s smash at different points, it’s always been able to reclaim the top spot, totaling a total of 23 nonconsecutive weeks to surpass Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” as the record-holder.

“I was on a writers retreat with Miranda [Lambert], our first time writing together,” Langley recalled of how “Choosin’ Texas” came together in an April interview with Billboard. “At a young age, she had a pet kangaroo. She told me how she got pulled over once with the kangaroo in the passenger seat. The kangaroo got her out of a ticket, and she said, ‘Of course, I had Texas plates, too.’ I went, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell…’ Forty-five minutes later, we had the song written.”

“Choosin’ Texas” appears on Langley’s sophomore album, Dandelion, which spent three weeks atop the Billboard 200. The project fared even better on the Top Country Albums chart, where it’s logged 18 weeks at No. 1 to date.

“It feels surreal,” Langley previously told Billboard News of her signature song’s reach. “I think this has been the biggest moment for me, where I’ve seen where fans can change your career. For so long, you’re like, ‘Alright, one song at a time, one record at a time.’ But with this one song … man, have they taken ahold of it. It’s wild.”
