Cam’ron & Ma$e Appear To Troll Shakur Stevenson’s Alleged Mental Health Crisis

Cam’ron and Ma$e were seemingly laughing off professional boxer Shakur Stevenson’s alleged suicide attempt during a recent episode of their sports talk show.
The pair of New York rappers are facing criticism after they appeared to mock boxer Shakur Stevenson’s following Teofimo Lopez’s account of his alleged suicide attempt from nearly 10 years ago during his appearance on It Is What It Is.
The controversial moment began to manifest when Cam’ron attempted to press Lopez for his previous comments about why he wouldn’t fight Stevenson due to his respect for J. Prince, who the Dipset rapper recently had a falling out with earlier this year after delivering some critical remarks about Stevenson following one of his bouts.
“I seen you somewhere and you was like, ‘I would never fight Shakur,’” Cam’ron said in a voice impersonating Lopez. “‘That ain’t really my thing. And I got mad with respect for J Prince’. What do J Prince got to do with you fighting Shakur bro? What’s up? I’m happy you Here. Let’s talk n###a.”
“I love it,” Lopez said. “That’s how it be. I love it. New York, all man. I love it. Yeah. Nah, I’ll say to be real just, I ain’t trying to give the man his first loss. I’ll let somebody else take that, handle that.”
Things really started boiling over once Lopez recalled a story about Stevenson supposedly trying to jump off a hotel rooftop after a loss in 2015 during the National Golden Gloves tournament. Lopez explained how Stevenson, who’s known for his undefeated professional record, was emotionally devastated by the loss and even contemplated ending his life.
“He lost it, man,” Lopez said. “He wanted to go up to the rooftop of the hotel and he wanted to jump off.” As Lopez told the serious story, Cam’ron and Ma$e’s reactions seemed to downplay the gravity of the situation.

Cam’ron jumped in, questioning with a bit of a condescending tone, “He was on the roof for real? Or you playing around?” After Lopez confirmed the seriousness of the situation, the pair quickly moved on. While Ma$e made a brief mention of mental health, saying, “Mental health is a serious thing. I’m not going to laugh about that,” the conversation swiftly pivoted away, leaving many viewers uncomfortable with how lighthearted the exchange seemed.
This isn’t the first time Cam’ron and Ma$e have clashed with Shakur Stevenson. Earlier this year, the undefeated boxer engaged in a back-and-forth on social media with the two rappers. The exchange is what sparked the viral response on the show during which Ma$e told J. Prince,” We not your little n###as.” The tension began after the hosts made critical comments about his performance, which Stevenson did not take lightly.
Despite the previous feud, the hosts were quick to claim that they had no ill will toward the boxer.
“We ain’t gone sit here and bash Shakur because that’s not where we even started with Shakur,” Cam’ron said. “He’s an undefeated fighter.”
