Grimes Throws Subtle Shade at Elon Musk Via Olivia Rodrigo Video: ‘Only Women Should Be Going to Space’

When it comes to interstellar travel, both Olivia Rodrigo and Grimes are in agreement: No boys allowed.
In a Q&A video posted by Netflix on Saturday (Nov. 2), the “Vampire” singer showed off a few of her favorite tank tops she wore while on tour. When she arrived at her Britney Spears-referencing “dump him” tank top, Rodrigo shared a very specific red flag she has when dating.
“This is a very oddly specific question that I ask guys on first dates; I always ask them if they think that they would want to go to space,” she said in the clip. “And if they say yes, I don’t date them. I just think if you wanna go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself. I think it’s just weird.”
In response to the singer’s comments, Grimes took to her X account, agreeing with Rodrigo’s sentiment. “It’s true,” she wrote under a Pop Crave post about the video. “Only women should be going to space.”
Fans immediately pointed out that Grimes seemed to be throwing some not-so-subtle shade at her ex Elon Musk. The X owner also founded the space technology company SpaceX, and he has spoken openly about his love for and desire to travel to space. “She does have the most experience out of most,” one fan wrote in response to her comment.
The Rodrigo Q&A comes just after the premiere of her Netflix concert special, Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour. In an interview with Billboard around the film’s release, Rodrigo said that she felt “so proud” of her tour, and felt a need to share that with the world. “It was happening at the right time for me and my career, and I wanted to capture it,” she explained. “I’m really excited to have a kind of a time capsule — like I could show my kids, ‘Hey, when your mom was 21, this is what she did every night!’ I think that’s gonna be pretty fun.”
