The English singer-songwriter becomes the first act to notch a first No. 1 on Rock & Alternative Airplay in 2025. The last act to do so, Myles Smith (also from England), first led with “Stargazing” in December 2024. Both Smith and Young have dominated in their first appearances on the chart.

“Messy” is on This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway, Young’s sophomore studio set. Released in June 2024, it has so far reached No. 6 on Top Alternative Albums (Feb. 8) and earned 191,000 equivalent album units.
