Directed by Trey Edward Shults, who also helms the movie portion, the heart-racing clip will give viewers goosebumps as they go from a state of euphoria to being baptized in fear. The Weeknd experiences the full spectrum of emotions, ranging from the bliss of romance as he takes a drive to the amusement park with co-star Jenna Ortega (Anima), but then the loneliness that creeps in when he’s back home alone.
“And I roll the window down, don’t ever think I’ll be this happy/ You know I love autonomy/ ‘Cause fame is a disease,” he croons to open the track.
Fans appear to be excited to check out the full movie coming in May. “So excited for the movie the visuals gonna be crazy,” one person commented on YouTube.
Before the Lionsgate movie hits theaters on May 16, The Weeknd will be making a unique appearance at Coachella with a ferris wheel takeover for weekend No. 2 in the desert. The ferris wheel is shown upside down and lit up in neon colors in support of the film.
It remains to be seen whether The Weeknd will make an appearance during a set himself. The last time he made a cameo at the Indio, Calif., festival came during Metro Boomin’s set in 2023.
Ahead of the nationwide film’s release, there’s an event for Abel’s faithful taking place in select theaters across the country, giving fans an opportunity to purchase tickets for an early look at Hurry Up Tomorrow on May 14.
The movie stars The Weeknd playing a fictionalized pop star version of himself in the psychological thriller alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
Hurry Up Tomorrow, the album, arrived on Jan. 31 and debuted atop the Billboard 200 after the set earned 490,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 6, according to Luminate.
