Brooklyn drill rapper Briscoe Bands was shot and killed near the Coney Island boardwalk, leaving behind a rising music career, a 3-year-old daughter and no arrests.
Brooklyn drill rapper Briscoe Bands was shot and killed Wednesday morning (July 1), cutting short the life of a promising artist whose family says his music career was finally beginning to take off.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:20 a.m. near West 28th Street and Surf Avenue, near the Coney Island boardwalk. When police arrived, they found 24-year-old Truron Roach-Martin, known professionally as Briscoe Bands, suffering from gunshot wounds to the face and chest.
Emergency responders rushed him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect, and the homicide investigation remains active.
Briscoe Bands had steadily built a following with an authentic portrayal of life in New York City and drill rap. The rapper had recently signed with Rich Blocc Records and was viewed by many as one of the borough’s emerging voices.

His mother, Christine Roach, believes her son’s growing profile may have made him a target.
“His career was taking off,” she said. “He was a young Black man coming up in the music business.”
She also expressed confidence that whoever was responsible would eventually be brought to justice.
“This world is crazy,” Roach said. “He didn’t bother nobody. Mark my words, this murderer will be caught, and he will be prosecuted.”
While she suggested envy may have played a role in the killing, investigators have not announced a motive or indicated whether the shooting was connected to Roach-Martin’s music career.
Known for tracks including “Drench Gang S### Pt. 1,” “Nightmare,” “Every F Shot” and “Purge,” Briscoe Bands represented Brooklyn’s latest generation of drill artists. His music reflected the realities of the streets while helping him cultivate a loyal online fan base through YouTube and social media.
Tributes quickly began appearing online following news of his death. Rich Blocc Records posted a heartfelt message remembering the rapper, writing, “Damn baby boy I love ya soul,” while fellow artists and fans shared condolences across social media.
Briscoe Bands leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter, along with a grieving family and supporters who believed his biggest career moments were still ahead.
As detectives continue searching for answers, authorities are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers tip line.
Briscoe Bands was 24 years old.
