Self-Proclaimed Devil-Worshiping Duo Twin Temple Say They Were Removed From Charley Crockett Tour Due To ‘Our Satanic Imagery’

There are more interesting reasons to drop an opening act, but not many. Self-proclaimed satanic doo wop duo Twin Temple revealed this week that “The Hallelujah Trail” country singer Charley Crockett booted them from a planned opening slot on his tour next week because of their Satan-hailing image.

“Today we were informed that Charley Crockett has decided to remove Twin Temple from his upcoming shows next week due to our Satanic imagery,” L.A.-based married couple Alexandra and Zachary James wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday (July 8).

“Unfortunately, that means we will not be able to perform for you next week as planned. We are really disappointed as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you, and also what it means as far as bringing different types of people and music lovers together,” added the rockabilly/soul group whose songs include “Lucifer, My Love,” “Sex Magick,” “Burn Your Bible,” “Let’s Have a Satanic Orgy” and “The Devil (Didn’t Make Me Do It)” and whose most recent album was 2023’s God Is Dead.

Earlier this year, Crockett announced a major run of summer shows on his Age of the Ram tour with a variety of opening acts, including Twin Temple for shows in Troutdale, Ore. on July 14 and Paso Robles, Calif. on July 18. At press time their name is no longer listed on Crockett’s tour itinerary for those dates; other shows on the outing are slated to include opening acts Sierra Hall, Wild Horses, Weary Boys, Penrod, Pony Bradshaw, Nat Myers and Durand Jones & the Indications, among others.

A spokesperson for Crockett forwarded a statement from the singer to Billboard on Friday morning (July 10), in which the country star said, “I thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain’t. Not today, Satan.”

A quick glance at Twin Temple’s Insta feed should have made it clear that the group is steeped in the imagery and verbiage of the dark lord. In addition to a bio flanked by blood drop emoji reading “SATANIC DOO WOP EST 1666,” the pair use a logo in which the initial letters in their name are upside-down crosses, wear stage outfits featuring pentagrams and employ the two-fingered devil horn salute as their pictorial calling card.

As for how Twin Temple — who are slated to go on tour with another occult-loving act, Danzig, in September —  got on Crockett’s radar in the first place, a bit of Nashville geography seems to have played a part. Producer/ singer Shooter Jennings co-wrote and co-produced Crockett’s most recent album, April’s Clovis, and the country outlaw was pictured hanging with Twin Temple at the Grammy Museum in 2002. Last year, Twin Temple also gave supporter Jennings a shout-out in a Facebook post in which they gushed about his Hollywood recording studio, Snake Mountain.
