Ten Chart Records Ella Langley Has Broken or Set

Fans are choosing Ella Langley over and over again. The country singer’s hit song, “Choosin’ Texas,” is on the precipice of setting an illustrious record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for a non-holiday title by a woman with no male-billed acts. And she would be surpassing two of the most legendary woman artists in music if she accomplishes the historic feat.
This week, on the chart dated July 25, “Choosin’ Texas,” which first topped the Hot 100 in February, ties Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” for the most weeks at No. 1 among non-holiday titles by women with no male-billed acts.
It won’t be revealed until Monday if Langley achieves the huge milestone and surpasses Carey and Houston, but, in the meantime, the Alabama native has been setting records almost every week on both the pop and country charts with either “Choosin’ Texas” or her album, Dandelion.
Langley wrote the two-stepping, mid-tempo song about a heartbreak with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. As Langley told Billboard earlier this year, “I was on a writers retreat with Miranda, our first time writing together. At a young age, she had a pet kangaroo. She told me how she got pulled over once with the kangaroo in the passenger seat. The kangaroo got her out of a ticket and she said, ‘Of course, I had Texas plates, too.’ I went, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell…’ Forty-five minutes later, we had the song written.”
Below is a list of records “Choosin’ Texas” and Langley have already matched or set.
