Jennifer Lopez Couldn’t Help Recreating This Iconic Madonna Moment in Venice: ‘I Had To Do It’

Jennifer Lopez may have famously missed out on the legendary triple kiss between Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV VMAs, but that didn’t stop the singer/actress from making some of her own Madonna memories recently while on a trip to Venice.
During the Italian getaway to celebrate her recent 57th (on July 24) and younger sister Lynda Lopez’s 55th (on June 14), JLo hopped onto one of the city’s famous gondolas and took a selfie video in which she performed one of the most iconic musical bits to ever take place on the 1,500-year-old waterways.
“I had to do it,” Lopez captioned her clip on X, in which Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” plays as the singer does some of the Material Girl’s choreo from the beloved Mary Lambert-directed video in which Madonna swooned all over a gondola as she sang the title track from her 1984 sophomore album.
The move comes just months after Madonna and Ozark actress Julia Garner recreated the famous gondola ride in a joint video in which they sat side-by-side in one of Venice’s water taxis as a gondolier rowed them through the city’s canals and they lip synched to Madonna’s first-ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit.
The nod to the original video came while Madonna was in town earlier this year filming scenes for the upcoming second season of the Emmy-winning Apple TV series The Studio alongside co-creator Seth Rogen and co-stars Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, Bryan Cranston and others, including Garner.
In June, Lopez teamed up with Brazilian musician Alok on the track “Everything’s Fine,” which he issued in two official editions, “AM” and “PM,” to explore the tension between what face people show the world and how they are really feeling inside.
