aespa Unleashes ‘Switchblade’ Music Video With Ty Dolla $ign Following Lollapalooza Debut

K-pop girl group aespa show no signs of slowing down, gaining fresh impetus from an eventful weekend. After making its Lollapalooza debut Sunday (Aug. 2), the quartet has released the official music video for “Switchblade,” the group’s collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign.

The music video premiered shortly after aespa’s Lollapalooza performance, where fans got a taste of the collaboration during one of the night’s biggest surprises. Midway through the group’s set at Chicago’s Grant Park, Ty Dolla $ign joined KARINA, GISELLE, WINTER and NINGNING on stage for the first-ever live performance of “Switchblade,” amplifying aespa’s already-exciting debut at the iconic festival.

The new visual expands on the song’s pop energy, complementing its vigorous production with colorful outfits, intense choreography and exuberant chemistry with one another. It’s a fun twist on their usual sci-fi storyline; instead of fighting digital villains in a serious sci-fi universe, the group uses its signature kwangya lore to build a chaotic, lighthearted high-school world where the members play eccentric student characters.

Lollapalooza was just another milestone for the group as the members made their first appearance at one of music’s most renowned festivals. Performing with a live band, DJ and dancers, aespa delivered a 14-song set that balanced career-defining hits with new songs from their second studio album, LEMONADE, which landed on the Billboard 200 at No. 9 upon its release. The performance opened with the group’s debut single, “Black Mamba,” before moving through fan favorites such as “Next Level,” “Armageddon,” “Supernova” and “Whiplash.” The set also featured the live debuts of several tracks from LEMONADE, including “Can’t Help Myself,” “SHAKIN’” and most notably, “Switchblade.”

Reflecting on the collaboration after the show, Ty Dolla $ign praised the group’s growth in a statement, calling it an “incredible experience” to return to the Lollapalooza stage alongside aespa and congratulating the quartet on “another unforgettable show.”
