The Warning Break Down 5 Essential Songs From New Album ‘Everything’s Falling’

Mexican band The Warning took a three-month break from its international tour to focus on making their new album, Everything’s Falling. The Villarreal Vélez sisters say they wanted enough time to capture the sonic and lyrical growth they’ve experienced in recent years as a standout hard rock and alternative band, whose music has connected with millions of listeners around the world.

Everything’s Falling arrived Friday (Aug. 28) on digital platforms via Lava/Republic Records. Across its 12 songs, the band — Daniela (vocals), Alejandra (bass) and Paulina (drums) — explore growth, resilience and uncertainty throughout their journey, while also delivering empowering lyrics about the challenge of being women in a male-dominated scene.

“Being in different places in our lives, I think we gave ourselves the freedom to express ourselves in a much more personal and deeper way than we had before,” Daniela tells Billboard Español in a video interview. “We wanted to explore what we want The Warning to be in the years ahead.”

“First and foremost, we gave ourselves permission to have a lot of fun, not take everything too seriously, and loosen up more when it came to the subjects we wanted to talk about,” Paulina adds. “We wanted to explore a heavier sound, so we worked with different guitar effects, different ways of singing, different songwriting styles, and new approaches to my drumming.”

Everything’s Falling was produced and co-written by Anton DeLost, helping the band achieve a sound inspired by ’90s alternative rock on songs like “Kerosene,” as well as nu-metal touches on the single “Ritual.” Other standout tracks on the powerful new album include “Bite My Tongue,” “Kill Or Be Killed” and “Bloodsport.”

As with previous albums, the music is mostly in English, The Warning’s second language. This time around, though, the band from Monterrey, Mexico — a city near the U.S. border — also included a Spanish-language song titled “Ego.”

“The world’s fascination with Latin music and Latin culture is really incredible. This year, the NFL invited us to the Super Bowl, we were part of Bad Bunny’s show, and seeing people’s reactions and the international response is something really beautiful,” Daniela says. “It’s beautiful to see how people are gradually becoming more interested in learning about cultures from other parts of the world.”

This year, The Warning continues its global rise with shows across the United States, following stops in Europe, Asia and South America, as well as appearances at major festivals around the world and their own headlining concerts. Recent accomplishments also include “Love to Be Loved,” a country-meets-hard-rock duet with regional Mexican superstar Carín León.

The band has cemented its place on the international rock scene, appearing on 10 Billboard charts, including No. 1 on Emerging Artists, No. 2 on Top Rock Albums,, No. 4 on Top Hard Rock Albums and No. 6 on Top Album Sales, among others. Most recently, the band made history as the first Mexican act and the first all-female group to top Mainstream Rock Airplay with “Kerosene,” which leads the chart dated Sept. 5.
