Woman goes to the World Cup in Atlanta. Then she heads to the concession stand and sees something amazing: ‘This is thanks to Arthur Blank’

‘U should see the prices at AMC movies.’

A woman attending the FIFA World Cup in Atlanta is pleasantly surprised by the concession prices at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Here is who locals are telling her to thank.

TikTok creator Symone (@symonewiththesports) is a sports reporter covering the World Cup. In a video posted last week, she notes the concession prices at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

By usual stadium price standards, the value is definitely there. A black bean burger is $9, a bacon cheeseburger is $7, and a grilled chicken sandwich is going for $6. A chicken tender and fry basket will run soccer fans $6, and a side of French fries or box candy goes for $3 and $3.50, respectively.

“The concession prices at Mercedes-Benz stadium for the FIFA World Cup >>>,” Symone writes in her caption.

Who Can Soccer Fans Thank for the Concession Prices in Atlanta?

According to several Atlanta locals in the comments section, this isn’t a miracle handed down out of thin air. There’s a real person behind the value.

“This is thanks to Arthur Blank,” wrote one person. “He wouldn’t let the concessions set ridiculous prices.”

“Shoutout to Arthur Blank!” a second person said. “He did this.”

“This is thanks to Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons and Atlanta FC,” a third person wrote. “He wanted families to be able to go to the games. Not all billionaires are greedy.”

Another person agreed, “Mercedes-Benz stadium takes care of the consumer. They don’t try to take all the money from you. They want you to enjoy the atmosphere and your event.”

Arthur Blank and the Concession Prices at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Symone and the Blank fans in her comments section are both correct. According to The New York Times, the concession prices at Mercedes-Benz Stadium are, in some cases, drastically lower than those at other stadiums hosting World Cup games.

In contrast, the concession stands at MetLife Stadium are charging $15 for a four-piece tender basket with fries. A deli sandwich costs $16, and a humble stadium hotdog costs $8.50. None of that is necessarily cost-prohibitive on its face, but multiply it by a family of four, and you see why the prices in Atlanta are so moving to consumers.

Blank gave an interview to the Times earlier this month and explained that he wants the consumer to feel “secure, embraced, loved, and respected” at the stadium. In fact, Blank said he specifically told FIFA that the stadium would not hike concession prices ahead of the World Cup festivities.

In most cases, according to Yahoo!, FIFA largely controls what concessions cost at its events. The higher prices are in part attributed to the fact that several different entities split the proceeds from sales. Higher prices mean a larger piece of the pie—or hot dog—for everyone.
