Drake stakes $1.5 million on Argentina to beat Spain in Sunday’s final and the curse could wreck Messi’s night.
Drake just dropped $1.5 million on Argentina to win the World Cup final and set off instant panic. The rapper posted his Stake slip while backing Argentina over Spain in the title match. He captioned the bet, “What’s that saying??? Better luck…,” poking fun at his own reputation.

Now Argentina supporters are sweating, because that reputation carries a body count. People call it the Drake curse, the idea that teams and athletes crumble once he throws cash behind them. His public wagers have turned into must-see content for anyone hoping to watch the pick backfire.
This one comes with an ugly bit of history attached. Drake placed the same 1×2 bet on Argentina in the 2022 final against France, which only counts the result after 90 minutes and stoppage time. Argentina won that night on penalties, yet Drake still lost a million because the match went past regulation.

That’s the exact market he chose again for the Spain clash, so the trap is already set. Argentina reached the final by stunning England 2-1 on two late Lionel Messi assists, according to ESPN. Spain punched its ticket by handling France 2-0, and now waits for Argentina in Sunday’s final, per NBC News.
The timing looks worse for Argentina when you check how his betting week has gone. Drake lost a reported $1 million on Conor McGregor to beat Max Holloway at UFC 329 last weekend. He built up the comeback with a caption that read, “THE MAC IS BACK?!?!?? … Say less.”
McGregor’s return lasted barely a minute before his knee buckled and the referee stopped it. Holloway took the TKO in 69 seconds and Drake’s seven-figure bet was gone before the crowd settled in. That loss stacked onto earlier misses on the Patriots and Arsenal this year.
He does hit sometimes, and one landed last month when he cashed a $770,000 bet on Canada. Stephen Eustaquio scored a 92nd-minute winner against South Africa and pushed Drake’s payout past a million. That result proved the curse breaks now and then, which is the only hope Argentina has left.
Drake’s slip shows a $5,175,000 payout if Argentina lifts the trophy in regulation Sunday at 3 PM.
