Yella Beezy’s legal strategy takes a hit as a Dallas judge orders the alleged Mo3 shooter to trial first, potentially exposing damaging evidence.
Yella Beezy faces a complicated legal situation after a Dallas judge ruled that the alleged shooter in Mo3’s 2020 murder will stand trial first, potentially exposing evidence that could reshape the entire case.
Kewon Dontrell White’s trial is set to begin August 24, despite White’s defense team arguing that Yella Beezy should face the courtroom first. The decision creates a strategic nightmare for everyone involved because White’s proceedings could reveal information that either helps or destroys Yella Beezy’s defense before his own trial even starts.
The feud between Yella Beezy and Mo3 didn’t happen overnight.
According to court testimony, the rivalry began in 2017 when comedian Roylee Pate questioned whether Yella Beezy was actually from Dallas. Pate, who was close with Mo3, was later assaulted by Yella Beezy and his crew.

More than a year later, Pate was shot and died from complications. Hours after Pate’s death, Yella Beezy was wounded in a drive-by shooting on the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Lewisville, with investigators determining the suspect vehicle belonged to someone connected to Mo3.
The conflict escalated through music, social media, and street confrontations over the next few years.
Prosecutors allege that Yella Beezy orchestrated a murder-for-hire plot and paid White to kill Mo3 on Interstate 35E in November 2020.
White has pleaded not guilty, and Yella Beezy maintains his innocence as well.
According to WFAA, prosecutors have maintained throughout the case that White would be tried first, and the judge ultimately sided with that position.
But White’s defense attorneys argued that trying Yella Beezy first would allow White to access evidence that could help his case, since Yella Beezy’s legal team has no obligation to share materials that might benefit White’s defense.
Lead defense attorney Bree West told the judge that evidence from Yella Beezy’s trial could reveal an “alternative theory” that would strengthen White’s position.
Prosecutor Tommy Adams rejected the delay tactic, pointing out that White has been in custody since December 9, 2020, and that Mo3’s family deserves to have the case heard.
The judge’s decision to proceed with White’s trial creates a domino effect that could complicate Yella Beezy’s case significantly.
Meanwhile, Yella Beezy’s legal team is fighting hard to keep his rap lyrics out of his trial, arguing that the music is artistic expression and shouldn’t be used to prove criminal intent. Detectives testified that songs like “Hittas” and “Keep It in the Streets” allegedly reference putting money on someone’s head, but the defense contends that rappers use fictional personas and exaggerated storytelling as part of the genre.
The case has drawn national attention to the ongoing debate about whether rap lyrics should be admissible in court.
The judge has not yet ruled on whether prosecutors will be allowed to use Yella Beezy’s music as evidence during his capital murder trial.
