Nipsey Hussle’s diss track “U Don’t Got a Clue” turned his mentor Big U into an enemy, sparking a confrontation that changed their relationship forever.
Nipsey Hussle was more than just a rapper to Big U.
The Rollin’ 60s Crips leader helped launch his career, let him record in the family studio, and gave him a place to live when he needed it most.
But that relationship fractured in 2011 over something as simple as music equipment, and the fallout reveals how quickly mentorship can turn into conflict within gang hierarchies.
According to court documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Big U requested some of Hussle’s recording gear that year, which sparked a dispute between the two.

Hussle responded by dropping a diss track called “U Don’t Got a Clue,” a direct shot at his former mentor that Big U took personally.
The indictment states that Big U perceived the song to be targeting him specifically, and he wasn’t about to let that slide.
What happened next shows the power dynamics at play. Big U allegedly went to confront Hussle about the disrespect, but Hussle’s brother stepped in and refused to let the confrontation happen.
That intervention likely saved Hussle from a serious beating, but it also marked a turning point in their relationship. The two men who’d once been close were now on opposite sides of a conflict rooted in pride and control.
The tragedy that followed would reshape everything. In March 2019, Hussle was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles by Eric Holder Jr., a fellow Rollin’ 60s member.
Holder was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 60 years to life in prison in 2023. The killing sent shockwaves through the community and left questions about the internal dynamics of the gang that both men claimed to represent.
Big U’s new federal indictment, which includes allegations of witness tampering and solicitation of violence, now forces a reckoning with his past relationship with Hussle.
The documents paint a picture of a man who used his position to enforce respect through intimidation, whether that meant chasing rappers through airports or disciplining those who stepped out of line.
Big U and six co-defendants are scheduled for trial in February 2027.
