Skilla Baby Revealed Nas Joined The Price Of Fame After Album Helped Save His Life

Skilla Baby survived gunfire and mental health struggles before finding new purpose in The Price Of Fame and Nas has offered the Detroit rapper some sage wisdom about success.

Skilla Baby revealed his forthcoming album played a major role in helping him through a difficult period while discussing his improved mental state and confirming Nas is involved with the project.

“I think it’s important to um since I let people know what mental health struggles I’ve been through and my lows, I think it’s important to tell my highs too about how this album really saved my life and now I’m in a good head space,” Skilla Baby said. “I just can’t wait to present this to the world like you know the price of fame August 21st. Everybody go get that. You heard it here first. Esco on this album. I’mma just let that be.”

The declaration carries more weight after what Skilla Baby has endured.

The Detroit rapper was shot multiple times in May 2025 near Detroit, his native land. Authorities said Skilla Baby was driving when another vehicle pulled alongside his SUV and someone opened fire. His vehicle crashed into a building.

Skilla Baby survived the brutal attack and subsequently began the difficult process of recovering from his injuries.

Now Nas brings his experience to the table in a conversation that was recorded in promotion of the project.

Nas cautioned against allowing social media to dictate the speed at which someone believes their life should progress.

“On Instagram, you’ll see somebody and you’ll really be thinking that’s your pace. You’ll see something on Instagram and be like, ‘Man, I need that. I want that.’ But it might not be your time.”

Nas also challenged the idea that financial success represents the ultimate measurement of wealth.

“Certain individuals could run it up. They could do that in their sleep because that’s just in them. The thing that’s important in life is love, love of self and knowledge,” Nas said in the video as Skilla Baby looked on.

He continued by placing family and self respect above the material rewards associated with a successful music career.

“The things we’re born with, we’re already wealthy with that. It starts right there. All the other stuff is extra, accessories and beautiful [things]. It’s all about love. It’s all about family. It’s all about respecting yourself. It’s all about honoring the people who helped you before you, your parents. It’s all about your loved ones, your kids.”

Still, Nas wasn’t advising Skilla Baby to shrink his ambitions. In fact, he advised the opposite.

“On the other side of that, take over the world. If it’s in your heart, take it over. There’s nothing really stopping you. If not you, then who?”

The Price Of Fame is due Aug. 21 and Skilla Baby’s unnamed Nas collab appears on the album.
