‘I’d be demanding that refund’: Seattle woman flies with Alaska Airlines. Then she notices they gave away her pre-ordered food

‘They did this to me in first class and I absolutely contacted corporate about it.’

A Seattle woman is let down after sitting down on her Alaska Airlines flight only to discover that the flight attendants gave away the meal she specifically pre-ordered for the trip.

TikTok creator Lauren (@lauren_in_seattle) filmed the video from the plane ride. 

“First world problems, but the flight attendants gave away my Beechers mac and cheese that I preordered for a 6-hour flight and was so excited for,” she wrote in the on-screen text.

In the caption, she wrote, “This is what I get for sitting in the back of the plane.”

Viewers React to the Seattle Woman’s Alaska Airlines Experience

In the comments section of the video, viewers expressed more outrage over the situation than Lauren did in her initial post.

“There’s no way! I’d tell Alaska because they have a list of who it’s for and their seat number,” wrote one viewer. Lauren replied that she was told the crew did know it was for her, but still gave it away.

“I’d be demanding that refund. Also what if you needed it and were planning around it for dietary reasons?” a second person said.

“Preordered food guarantees you that food unless they absolutely don’t have any on board. Please call Alaska,” a third person wrote.

Another person said, “If it makes you feel any better, it tastes like the cardboard tray it comes in.”

What Is Alaska Airlines’ Pre-ordered Food Policy?

Alaska Airlines allows travelers to pre-order meals ahead of time so that they are available on the flight. According to the policy, pre-ordering is available through the mobile app or website two weeks to 20 hours prior to departure. Travelers’ cards get charged when they receive the meal.

Back in February, Alaska Airlines announced its spring menu, which includes Beecher’s Mac & Cheese within North America. The dish is, of course, fueled by the noted Seattle cheesemaker, and the airline’s culinary team spent two years perfecting the sky version.

In a Reddit thread posted to r/AlaskaAirlines three years ago, users spoke highly of both the quality of the meal and the pre-order process. “Preorder for sure,” one person wrote. “If you change your mind on board, they won’t charge you and will either resell it or eat it.”

It’s unclear what went wrong in the process here for Lauren’s mac and cheese to get delivered to someone else. But it looks like she at least only had to pay in disappointment over the course of her flight. Luckily, she already lives near a place where she can easily get the real Beecher’s Mac & Cheese pretty much any time she likes.

Blessing in Disguise?

In terms of quality, did Lauren miss out on a treat or not? Well, one traveler posted to Reddit two months ago to say that Alaska Airlines’ Beecher’s Mac & Cheese is “good (for airplane food), with a generous portion and great taste on the noodles and cheese sauce.”

However, they wrote that the mac and cheese did have one drawback. “The breadcrumbs were under-seasoned,” the person wrote. “I wish they had just left them off if they weren’t going to be crunchy and flavorful.”
