Vanilla Ice’s Freedom 250 concert gets canceled two hours before showtime, marking the final collapse of Trump’s failed celebration event.
Vanilla Ice walked into the National Mall on Friday night expecting to perform at Trump’s Great American State Fair, but the 90s rapper never made it to the stage.
Two hours before his scheduled performance, Freedom 250 organizers shut down the entire event, citing “inclement weather” as the reason for the last-minute cancellation.
The move marked the final collapse of a concert series that had already hemorrhaged nearly every major artist on its lineup.
Hours earlier, Vanilla Ice had posted videos from the National Mall calling the gig a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and promising attendees they’d “come together and be teenagers for the night.”
He’d been one of the few artists willing to show up after virtually everyone else bailed.
Martina McBride, The Commodores, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Milli Vanilli, and Morris Day all dropped out, with most claiming they were misled about the event’s political nature.
Young MC said the artists “were never told about any political involvement” when they were booked, and Milli Vanilli’s representatives insisted they never agreed to perform at all.
Vanilla Ice told TMZ he wouldn’t get caught up in the politics, saying, “I’m not gonna get dragged” into it, and that “music is made to bring people together.” But his loyalty didn’t matter.
Once the other performers started bailing, Trump stepped in and declared himself the “Number One Attraction anywhere in the World,” giving a rally-style speech Wednesday night about his renovation projects instead.
He bragged about his massive ballroom, which he’d built by demolishing the East Wing, and now it’s facing legal challenges.
He also touted his freshly painted Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which had turned green from algae just days after completion.
The opening night featured Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA” and FBI Director Kash Patel’s girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, performing the national anthem, which was roasted online for being off-key.
A power outage at the food hall had already melted ice cream earlier in the week, and then a man was arrested for masturbating at the event, further “staining” the already troubled celebration.
