‘I went in with a swimsuit’: Bouncer at Miami beach club tells woman she can’t get in because of the length of her shorts. Then she notices something about the other women getting in

‘They are definitely judgy there.’

A woman says she was denied entry to a popular Miami beach restaurant/club because of the length of her shorts. However, she claims she watched several other women wearing similar outfits walk right in.

In a recent video, @itz.jskayy explains that she and her friends arrived at Joia Beach Miami with outfits they considered aligned with the dress code. Despite her efforts to respect the dress code, she says a bouncer turned her away over a dress code violation.

“Joia Beach just told me I couldn’t get in literally because of the length of my shorts,” @itz.jskayy says.

‘That Don’t Even Make Sense‘

Joia Beach is a waterfront restaurant and beach club located on Jungle Island in Miami. Its menu is Mediterranean-inspired, and it’s known for not only its food but also its beach club atmosphere. Additionally, for its strict dress code.

While the bouncer denied @itz.jskayy and her friends entry, supposedly because of what they had on, they say they saw him allow other women with very similar clothing into the venue.

“When I tell y’all, it was about two to three people that had the same length as my shorts walk in, and he telling me I can’t get in because of my shorts?” she says. She says her friend questioned the decision, arguing that the explanation didn’t add up.

“Then he wanna start arguing with my friend because my friend said, ‘That don’t even make sense. Her shorts is going over her booty.’ Why the hell y’all got this strict-[expletive] dress code if you’re not even making it clear what the exact dress code is?” she says.

According to @itz.jskayy, she had visited Joia Beach the night before and inquired about the dress code. She says a worker told her that while swimwear isn’t permitted, regular clothing is acceptable before 5 p.m.

“We came here last night, and we knew we couldn’t wear swimwear, but they literally said we could wear regular clothes to get in before 5 p.m.,” she says. “That’s weird as [expletive].” She can be seen almost tearing up in the video.

‘Miami Is Always Picking And Choosing’

Viewers were quick to weigh in on the situation.

“Yeah Miami is always picking and choosing. I wore this to Joia and was fine,” says one commenter, attaching an image of them in a bikini with a mesh cover-up on top.

“It’s the entire outfit boo. I tell everybody if you want that Miami pretty privilege you have to understand the style or everything will be a hit or miss,” says another person.

“Don’t argue with nobody to spend your money where you’re not wanted,” someone else says.

“It’s the overall fit … it’s cute for somewhere in Atalanta not Miami,” a different person mentions.

“is joia not a beach club??? i’m confusion,” asked another person, to which @itz.jskayy responded, “Exactly.”

“I’m sorry, I see the hurt in your eyes. I don’t understand why ppl love Miami, the energy is terrible there,” another comment sympathizes. 

The video has 399,400 views and 41,000 likes as of this writing.

What Is Joia Beach’s Dress Code?

According to Joia Beach’s website, the venue follows a “European-inspired, upscale beach chic” dress code. The website states that “proper attire” is required for entry and that management reserves the right to refuse admission or ask guests to leave if they do not meet the dress code guidelines. 

However, the site does not provide clear examples of what clothing is or is not permitted, and “European-inspired, upscale beach chic” is pretty vague. Strangely enough, the site is specific about some aspects of the dress code. For example, it states, “Fishnet cover-ups, offensive clothing, athletic apparel, hoodies, sweatpants, tank tops, cargo pants and slides worn with socks are not permitted in any area of the venue.” However, nowhere does it say short shorts are not allowed.

It seems as if dress code enforcement is up to the bouncer’s discretion. Based on the photos people commented about what they got in wearing, the dress code seems arbitrary.
