Vegas woman says only ‘real friends’ are RSVPing to destination wedding. Then she reveals the venue: ‘In a good economy, that would’ve been too much’

‘My real friends would never ask me to spend $10k on their wedding.’

A social critic takes on a Las Vegas bride’s complaints about her friends and family not showing up for her Diensy cruise destination wedding.

TikTok creator Oil & Ashes (@oilandashes1) posted a green screen video responding to an original post by self-proclaimed “2027 bride” Alyssa Nicole Stein (@alyssanicolestein). It doesn’t appear that the original video is still on TikTok.

Oil & Ashes’ video starts with a screen recording of Stein’s original video. “Once you start planning or booking your wedding, you find out who your friends are really fast,” Stein is saying in the video. “And, yeah, it is a destination wedding.  I was responded with some people saying, ‘This is what you went with?’”

Would ‘Real Friends’ RSVP for This Disney Cruise Wedding?

At this point in the video, Oil & Ashes cuts in to explain the friends’ side of things. “It was a seven-day Disney cruise as a destination wedding,” she says. “In a good economy, that would’ve been too much.”

In order to avoid this situation, the creator recommends thinking of weddings like a show. Yes, the bride and groom are the stars of the show, but, “you’ve got to think about your guests and everything that it will require of them to come to your show,” Oil & Ashes says.

“And, if it’s too much of an investment,” she shakes her head, indicating that the RSVP answer will likely be no. “It doesn’t mean they love you any less,” she says at the end of the video. “It just means it’s too much for them.”

Was the Bride Asking Too Much of Her Potential Guests?

In the comments section of Oil & Ashes’ video, most viewers agree with her analysis that Stein was asking too much of her wedding guests.

“To be fair, she’s absolutely correct,” said one viewer. “My real friends would never ask me to spend $10K on their wedding.”

“In this economy,” said a second weary viewer.

“Seven days. So my whole [paid time off] and then going into debt?” asked a third person.

Another person suggested, “Let’s normalize eloping then going to dinner.”

How Much Is Too Much to Ask of Your Wedding Guests?

According to the Disney website, two guests can generally expect to pay about $3,000 for a seven-night cruise. Of course, that doesn’t include any extras or gratuities. In a Reddit thread posted to r/DCL two years ago, cruise goers revealed that their on-board expenses varied depending on how many guests in their party and whether they added any excursions.

Some reported staying on a strict budget and spending only a few hundred dollars in addition to the fare. Others said kids’ activities, excursions, and other extras—in particular alcohol—resulted in them spending $3,000 or more.

According to the Cut, wedding guests are actually used to spending money on other people’s weddings, especially when travel is involved. However, the $3,500-$6,000 price tag Stein was asking her guests to shell out is higher than the $2,500 average.
