Tupac Murder Investigator RJ Bond Says Keefe D Case Has Major Holes

RJ Bond says prosecutors are building a murder case against Keefe D on statements alone, not physical evidence connecting him to Tupac’s 1996 death.

RJ Bond is tearing apart the prosecution’s case against Keefe D with evidence that prosecutors might not have what they claim to have.

The filmmaker and longtime Tupac investigator has spent nearly two decades documenting the circumstances surrounding the 1994 murder, and he’s raising serious questions about whether the evidence against Keefe D actually holds up in court.

The core problem, according to Bond, centers on what prosecutors are actually charging Keefe D with.

“You have a man being charged and potentially convicted for something he said,” Bond explained. “Now, I don’t know about you, but that’s not the kind of country I want to live in.”

Bond points to a critical issue: there’s no physical evidence directly linking Keefe D to the crime. No gun. No forensics. Nothing tangible connecting him to the shooting.

On September 7, 1996, Tupac attended the Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After the bout, Tupac and his Death Row entourage encountered Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, Keefe D’s nephew, in the hotel lobby.

Tupac initiated the confrontation, punching Anderson and beating him with Suge Knight and others. Hours later, Tupac was shot multiple times in a white Cadillac near the Las Vegas Strip and died six days later.

According to Bond’s analysis, Keefe D ‘s claims he was given a gun and went to Club 662, owned by Suge Knight, to wait for Tupac to perform.

Bond questions the logic: “If you can’t prove that he was in Vegas or you can’t prove that he had a gun, and you can’t answer a simple question like, ‘Okay, Keefe D says he was given a gun and they went to Club 662,’ there were 14 armed Vegas police officers at Club 662 that night and at least that many Death Row guys that had guns. You’re going to tell me you’re going to bring one gun to a 28 gun fight?”

Keefe D’s 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend,” co-authored by Yusuf Jah, has become a major problem for his defense.

On June 30, 2026, a Nevada judge ruled the book admissible as evidence, allowing prosecutors to use his own words against him.

Bond questions the reliability of statements in a co-authored work: “When you look at a concept like that and you say, ‘Okay, well, how much of it was true and how much of it was the other author?’ Like I said, at the end of the day, you’re looking at we’re taking somebody to trial based on what he said, right?”

The circumstances under which Keefe D made his initial statements to police are equally troubling. He was facing serious federal drug charges involving 10 gallons of PCP.

Local LAPD prosecutors offered him a proffer deal in 2008, promising potential leniency on the PCP case if he provided information about Tupac’s murder.

However, that local agreement didn’t protect him from federal prosecution.

Federal authorities built a separate drug trafficking case for cocaine and PCP that wasn’t covered by the local deal. Bond notes the contradiction.

“They were saying that he actually told Keefe D, ‘Well, we’ll make a deal on the PCP case if you give us information about the killing of Tupac Shakur.’ Now, last time I checked, especially when you’re two strikes down in KFD and you have 10 gallons of PCP that you put, that’s a life sentence right there.”

The fact that Keefe D became a paid informant for the LAPD also troubles Bond.

“If you really think this guy is that crooked of a dude, but if your goal is to put him away from murder for the rest of his life and you want to make him an informant to try to set somebody else up, you got to have some sort of trust there, right?” Bond said.

According to reporting on the case, the trial begins August 17 and runs for six weeks, with the 30th anniversary of Tupac’s shooting falling on September 7 during the proceedings.

Keefe D has maintained his innocence throughout the legal process.
