Nolan was the only Black teenager in a group of white friends who went to Horn Island on July 4, and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance have only gotten murkier.

Conflicting witness accounts emerged about whether he planned to stay behind with a girl or return to the boat with everyone else, and a video circulating online appeared to show an altercation on the beach that evening.

The body was discovered Monday, July 6, off the coast of Horn Island in the Mississippi Gulf Coast, two days after he vanished during the holiday weekend.

His friends returned to the mainland around 7:19 p.m. on July 4 but didn’t report him missing until hours later, creating a 13-hour gap that investigators are still trying to explain.

According to TMZ, Dr. Roger Mitchell, a board-certified pathologist and president of the National Medical Association, conducted the independent examination and stated he cannot rule out foul play.

The official autopsy results remain unreleased, and the cause and manner of death are still undetermined pending further investigation.

The case has attracted national attention, with Al Sharpton and Tyler Perry each offering $50,000 rewards for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Nolan was an elite athlete on the football team at Southwest Mississippi Community College, and his death has raised serious questions about what really happened on that island.

The investigation remains active as of July 22, 2026, with authorities still seeking witnesses and evidence from anyone who was present that day.
