Flau’jae Johnson Honors Father Camoflauge Through Community Work

Flau’jae Johnson returns to her Savannah roots with a massive back-to-school giveaway honoring her late father’s legacy.

Flau’jae Johnson turned Savannah’s Enmarket Arena into a back-to-school supply station on July 26, bringing her fourth annual giveaway to thousands of students who lined up for free essentials.

The WNBA rookie and rapper didn’t just show up with boxes of backpacks and pencils either. She brought the energy, the resources, and a real commitment to her hometown that goes way deeper than one summer event.

Her father was Camoflauge, one of Savannah’s most respected rappers before his life was cut short in 2003, six months before Flau’jae was even born.

Camoflauge had just signed with Universal Music Group when he was killed, and his murder remains unsolved to this day.

That loss shaped everything about who Flau’jae became, and she’s carried his legacy forward through her music and community work.

According to WTOC, the event featured free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, uniforms, haircuts, and food for families who needed it most.

“Thank you to everybody for coming out here,” Johnson said at the event. “I really appreciate it and every year we want to make it bigger and bigger. This is a great turn out.”

The turnout proved she’s built something real in Savannah, something that matters beyond the court or the studio. Students left with everything they needed to start the school year without their families spending a dime.

On the court, Flau’jae’s been making serious noise as a Seattle Storm rookie in the WNBA.

She’s averaging 13.7 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists through the midpoint of her first season, and she was named an All-Star player host.

When asked about the rest of her rookie campaign, she didn’t hold back. “I’m going to go crazy man,” Johnson said. “It’s going to be a great year. I’m trying to show y’all some special. I’m still that one. No matter the level.”

That confidence isn’t arrogance. It’s the same energy she brings to Savannah every summer, the same drive that’s pushing her to prove herself in the league.
