Fat Swagg, a 29-year-old DC rapper, was shot and killed Wednesday in Northwest DC, leaving his family devastated and searching for answers.
Fat Swagg left behind a daughter who’ll never know her father’s voice, and a family still searching for answers about who pulled the trigger on a Northwest DC street.
The 29-year-old rapper, born Kavon Mayor, was gunned down Wednesday afternoon around 2:15 P.M. on the 1300 block of Fifth Street Northwest, and the DC music community’s reeling from the loss.
Another man was also hit in the crossfire and is recovering at a hospital, but Fat Swagg didn’t make it.
His aunt, who took him in after his mother passed in 2017, spoke exclusively about the devastation rippling through their family.

“Right now, I’m just angry about the violence that’s going on in DC. And I miss my nephew. And right now, I’m hurting for his daughter who’s about to turn 8 years old, and the rest of my family members, his siblings, his cousins. We’re all just having a hard time at this time,” she told reporters. When asked if she had any leads on who killed him, her response was simple and heartbreaking. “No, I don’t. I don’t.”
Exclusive Ring camera footage captured the immediate aftermath of the shooting, showing the chaos that erupted on that block.
Police are hunting for a white Honda they believe was involved in the attack, and detectives are working to piece together what led to the violence.
According to FOX 5 Washington DC, the family’s demanding justice while the investigation continues.
The DC rap scene has lost one of its own, and the community’s left grappling with another senseless loss to street violence.
Fat Swagg was part of the vibrant underground Hip-Hop culture that defines the DMV, contributing to a scene that’s always been about resilience and storytelling.
His legacy now lives through the memories his loved ones hold and the music he left behind.
