Keefe D might walk free on bail before the Tupac murder trial even begins next week in Las Vegas.
Keefe D might be walking out of a Las Vegas detention center before the jury even gets seated in the Tupac murder trial.
During a pre-trial hearing, the judge signaled she’s willing to let the former Compton gang leader post bail, a move that caught prosecutors completely off guard and set the stage for a dramatic final week before opening arguments.
The defense team has been aggressively pushing for Keefe D’s release, and the judge’s comments suggest they’ve got a real shot at it.
“If Mr. Davis were to bail out tomorrow or in the middle of trial, that wouldn’t affect anything from the evidence perspective or how the trial is conducted,” Judge Carli Kierny said from the bench.

That statement alone is a massive win for the defense, essentially telling prosecutors their objections don’t hold legal weight.
Keefe D has been locked up since his arrest on September 29, 2023, meaning he’s spent nearly three years in custody waiting for this moment.
The prosecution fought hard to keep him detained, but the judge’s ruling opens a path to freedom that seemed impossible just weeks ago.
The real courtroom battle centered on what evidence jurors will actually see and hear. Prosecutors want to use Keefe D’s 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” and his various media appearances against him, arguing that his public statements contradict one another and prove he’s lying.
The defense countered that a 2008 immunity agreement with the LAPD should shield those later statements from being used as evidence.
The judge raised serious concerns about fairness, questioning whether prosecutors could effectively punish Keefe D for speaking publicly after receiving immunity.
According to FOX5 Vegas, prosecutors argued Davis broke his immunity agreement by going public, but the judge seemed skeptical of that logic.
She said she’d review all the media interviews before trial starts to determine what’s admissible.
Meanwhile, the prosecution released an 11-page witness list that reads like a who’s who of Hip-Hop history and Las Vegas power players.
Suge Knight, the former Death Row Records CEO who was in the car with Tupac the night of the shooting, is expected to testify.
Knight survived with minor injuries while Tupac died six days later. Other witnesses include Tupac’s sister and stepbrother, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, and Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, who was a Metro sergeant when the murder happened.
The trial is expected to last at least four weeks, with jury selection beginning Monday, August 10, at the Regional Justice Center.
Keefe D remains the only person ever arrested in connection with Shakur’s 1996 death, and he’s pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
Three other people were in the Cadillac that night, including Davis’s nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, but all have since died.
