Trans Actress Laverne Cox Reveals Rappers Hit On Her All The Time

Laverne Cox reveals rappers and athletes hit on her privately but refuse to date her publicly because she’s trans.
Laverne Cox just pulled back the curtain on something that’s been happening to her in Hollywood for years, and it’s a reality check for how the entertainment industry really operates.
The 54-year-old actress and activist opened up exclusively to Us Weekly about the double standard she’s experienced with rappers, athletes, and actors who approach her privately but refuse to be seen with her publicly because she’s trans.
“Being trans has really helped me with the Hollywood thing and not getting too full of myself,” Cox explained while promoting her new memoir “Transcendent.”
“It really checks you. Because even I just think about all the women colleagues of mine, in my age range or whatever, like all the famous athletes, rappers and actors who kind of hit on me but like would never date me publicly because I’m trans.”
What’s striking about Cox’s statement is how she’s reframing what could be seen as rejection into something protective. She’s not bitter about it.
Instead, she’s recognizing that her identity as a trans woman has actually shielded her from a lot of the predatory behavior that cisgender women in the industry face regularly.
Cox has been vocal about setting boundaries in her personal and professional life, especially after her recent breakup with an ex-boyfriend who was an NYPD officer.
She’s learned that surrounding herself with people who genuinely support her, rather than those who want to keep her hidden, is essential to her mental health and well-being.
Cox’s new memoir, “Transcendent,” is available now from major retailers, and she’s been making the rounds promoting the book and discussing the deeper issues around trans representation and acceptance in entertainment.
