Teyana Taylor Explains What Really Happened During Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium Performance

Teyana Taylor says faulty in-ear monitors left her unable to hear during Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium concert.

Teyana Taylor is clearing the air. We all saw it: something seemed off during her performance with Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium.

The Harlem native took to Instagram to explain. She said that technical issues, not nerves or lack of preparation, got her good. Some of us were crying for Mary J. to come back. According to Teyana, her in-ear monitors and audio failed her.

“The sound & in-ears said ‘Not today.’ 😂 But guess what?? The gratitude was louder than any mic could ever be. 🥹 I may not have been able to hear a damnnnnn thanggggg. 😩 But one thing I could do was SEE.”

Despite the setback, Teyana said the experience itself outweighed any frustration. She reflected on how surreal it felt to perform alongside Jay-Z in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt.

“I got to see this lil Harlem girl stand beside the GOAT… in Yankee Stadium… in front of over 40,000 people who showed so much love,” she wrote. “If you would’ve told this lil Harlem girl that one day she’d share a stage with JAY-Z in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world….she would’ve never believed you.”

Real talk.

Teyana also turned the moment into a reflection on faith.

“Father God has a funny way of reminding you just how far you’ve come. One minute you’re caught up in everything that’s going wrong… and the next, He gently reminds you that you’re standing in the middle of a prayer you once whispered as a little girl in Jesus name, Amen.”

She ended the post by thanking Jay-Z for inviting her to be part of the historic event.

“Jay… THANK YOU @jayz for allowing me to be a part of such an iconic night. Thank you for the opportunity, the trust and the honor. I’ll never take moments like this for granted & I’ll carry this one with me forever. Happy 30th anniversary to the albums that changed the culture forever.”

A lot of folks criticized the performance, but we are going to give her a pass on all fronts. Gratitude always works.
