‘I’d probably walk out’: Phoenix woman goes on first date. So, she brings along an Uno Reverse card just in case

‘Hope he doesn’t he mind.’
A Phoenix-based woman sparks online outrage after revealing she brought her best friend on a date.
On May 1, Jessica Killian (@yungstunna2000) posted a TikTok, which has amassed over 51,100 views as of this writing, featuring Killian and her friend waiting for the date to arrive.
What Exactly Happened on Killian’s Date?
“Guys, I’m going on a date, and I brought my friend,” she says, with her friend in the background.
“He’s not here yet,” she adds.
Killian clarifies in the comments section that she brought her friend “for fun” and that the man did show up, though she did not reveal any additional information.
Overwhelmingly, the comments section was full of criticism from commenters saying they would walk out if they were in the man’s situation.
“Maybe it’s me, but if I ask somebody out [on a date] and they bring their friend, I’d probably walk out,” wrote one commenter. “Respectfully, of course.”
“Nope!” added another. “I’d ask if she’s staying, and if it was a yes, I’d walk out. This is so disrespectful.”
How Does This Date Experience Reflect Modern Dating?
The backlash to Killian’s video reflects a broader debate about modern dating etiquette, boundaries, and safety. While bringing a friend on a first date is far from a mainstream practice, it touches on several trends shaping how younger generations approach dating.
According to research from the Pew Research Center, many Americans believe dating has become more difficult over the past decade, with most active daters reporting dissatisfaction with their dating lives and describing great difficulty in finding compatible partners.
The same research found that a majority of women have experienced some form of harassing behavior while dating, helping explain why safety precautions have become increasingly common, especially during first meetings with someone from a dating app or social media. While bringing a friend directly to the date may strike many people as excessive, sharing locations, arranging safety check-ins, and meeting in public places have become widely accepted practices.
The controversial video also arrives as dating norms are drastically changing among Gen Z. New trends have emerged that challenge traditional ideas about courtship, including group-oriented dating experiences and what some commentators have called “friendfluence,” where friends play a larger role in romantic decision-making. Dating platforms have even experimented with features designed around double dates and group interactions, reflecting a growing desire among some young adults to make dating feel more social and less intimidating.
AllHipHop reached out to Killian for comment via TikTok direct message and the comment section. We will update this story if she responds.
