Remy Ma stars in Lifetime’s psychological thriller ‘Don’t Trust the Girls Upstairs’ in her first lead role in the film based on Liv Constantine’s bestselling novel.
Remy Ma is stepping into her biggest acting role yet with Lifetime’s new psychological thriller Don’t Trust the Girls Upstairs, premiering tonight (June 20) at 8:00 P.M.
The Grammy-nominated artist plays Ashley Preston, a woman whose life spirals into chaos when she takes in her niece following her sister’s death.
Based on bestselling author Liv Constantine’s novel “My Sister’s Daughter,” the film marks Remy Ma’s first starring role in a Lifetime original movie.
Director David Weaver helms the psychological thriller, which also features Arielle Prepetit, Nathan Witte, Aliyah Marc, and Sasha Rojen.
The plot follows Ashley as she attempts a fresh start by welcoming her niece into her home. What begins as an act of compassion quickly unravels into a nightmare of suspicion and danger.
With her husband and two children already in the house, the arrival of her sister’s daughter triggers a series of disturbing events that leave everyone questioning who can be trusted.
“Things just start going crazy in the house. I don’t want to tell too much cuz you guys got to tune in. I don’t invite family over ever,” Remy Ma explained during an appearance on “NY Living.”
Remy Ma went all in on the production, even performing her own stunts.
“I had a stunt double, but I did like two of my own scenes. It’s like a drowning scene. I was waiting since last year to post it because no one’s going to believe that it’s actually me. Halfway through I was like ‘Oh, this is easy,’” she said.
The experience on set was overwhelmingly positive for the two-time Grammy-nominated artist.
“I had so much fun shooting the movie. It’s just an honor to be able to do other things besides music and be able to come here and people like have your movies come out,” Remy Ma shared.
This marks Remy Ma’s return to Lifetime following her 2023 appearance in Girl in the Closet.
The film is produced by Navid Soofi for Studio TF1 America in association with Rohm.
Liv Constantine’s source material has proven popular with audiences, and the adaptation brings the psychological thriller to television audiences nationwide.
