Chris Brown faced another brutal day in court as his former housekeeper, Maria Avila, took the stand to describe the moment a massive dog nearly killed her at his Tarzana mansion.
Avila testified Monday that she thought she was going to die when the 140-pound Central Asian Ovcharka named Hades attacked her without warning while she was taking out trash in December 2020.
She’d only worked at the property four times and had received no warning about the dogs on the premises, she told jurors.
The housekeeper described the attack in graphic detail, explaining how the dog first targeted her face before grabbing her arm and dragging her across the driveway.
“I thought I was going to die,” she said, recounting the terror of those moments. She claimed she had never seen or heard the dog before it struck, and that no one on Brown’s team had ever mentioned the animals to her.
After the dog finally released her, Avila was left bleeding heavily in the driveway, suffering injuries that would require multiple surgeries.
Avila’s testimony directly contradicted Brown’s account from earlier in the trial.
According to TMZ, Brown claimed he’d warned both Avila and her sister that the dogs weren’t friendly and that they shouldn’t go outside without asking him first.
However, Avila’s attorney pointed out that both women are Spanish speakers, making it unlikely they would have understood such a warning delivered in English.
Brown also testified he was “in shock” when he discovered her on the ground, describing the injuries as severe with extensive blood.
What stands out most is Brown’s behavior after the attack. He didn’t personally call 911; instead, he had his security team make the call because he feared the incident would leak to media outlets and create a “circus” around his image.
He then left the scene before paramedics and police arrived, spending a couple of hours driving around before returning home. Avila said Brown never comforted her or offered any assistance as she lay bleeding on his property.
The injuries Avila sustained were severe enough to require emergency surgery on her face, arm, and legs. She now suffers from permanent facial disfigurement, nerve damage, and vision loss. Her $90 million lawsuit seeks compensation for these permanent injuries and the trauma of the attack.
