Tay Keith’s family and friends gather in his hometown to honor the Grammy-nominated producer who shaped hip-hop’s biggest hits before his sudden death at 29.
Tay Keith was found unresponsive in his Nashville apartment during a welfare check on June 18, and the hip-hop community’s grief has only deepened since.
On June 26, friends and family gathered in Raleigh, his hometown, to honor his memory at a candlelight vigil.
His uncle Deon Conway addressed the crowd with emotion, describing Tay Keith as “a phenomenal human being” who was “kind, intelligent, and even brilliant.” The
His aunt spoke about the heartbreak of losing him while expressing gratitude for the community’s support, saying the family was still processing the reality of his death.
The vigil ended with attendees releasing balloons into the air while shouting “Long live Tay Keith,” a moment that captured both the pain and the celebration of his legacy.
Vigil organizer Jasper Netter noted that Tay Keith’s influence extended far beyond his own production work, saying he “helped a lot of young entrepreneurs and artists reach their destiny” and “took chances on them other people wouldn’t take.”
Drake honored Tay Keith with eternal gratitude following the producer’s passing, acknowledging the profound impact he had on his career and the industry.
Funeral arrangements are still pending as the family continues to grieve and the music world processes the loss of one of its most innovative minds.
Officers discovered the 29-year-old Grammy-nominated producer at his Martin Street residence, with no signs of foul play, according to Metro Nashville Police.
His cause of death remains pending autopsy results, leaving fans and collaborators waiting for answers about how the visionary behind some of the biggest hits in modern rap suddenly left the world.
The producer, whose real name was Brytavious Chambers, had shaped the sound of a generation through his work with Drake, Travis Scott, Beyoncé, and countless other artists.
He produced four No. 1 records on the Billboard Hot 100, including Travis Scott’s 2018 breakthrough “Sicko Mode” and Drake’s 2023 hit “First Person Shooter.”
His fingerprints were all over the culture, from BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive” to Sexyy Red’s “Pound Town,” each track a testament to his ear for production and his ability to elevate artists around him.
