Albanian Prime Minister Defends Ye Concert Investment While Facing Corruption Protests

Ye’s heading to Albania on July 11 despite being banned from the UK and having his Italy show canceled over his antisemitic history.

Ye is heading to Tirana on July 11, and Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama just dropped a major defense of the $4.5 million investment to make it happen.

Rama went on Facebook to explain why his government spent that kind of money on a makeshift stadium for a single concert, and the answer’s simple: nearly 25,000 international visitors from 80 countries already had tickets locked in, and canceling would’ve embarrassed the entire nation in front of the world.

The economic projections are wild, too. Rama’s team expects the event to generate at least $114 million in revenue for Albania, which is a serious return on that initial investment.

“One only has to look at the surge in bookings on Booking.com for Friday, Saturday and Sunday to get an idea of the direct economic benefit for families, businesses and the coffers of the municipality and the state, from increased consumption, without even counting the longer-term benefits,” Rama said.

But here’s where it gets complicated. Ye’s been banned from performing in multiple European countries this summer because of his history with antisemitic remarks and Nazi imagery.

Back in 2022 and 2023, he went on public tirades praising Adolf Hitler, posted content featuring Nazi symbols, and made repeated antisemitic statements that drew global condemnation.

The backlash has been relentless, with the UK Home Office blocking him from entering the country, which led to the cancellation of the entire Wireless Festival.

Italy also pulled the plug on his May 2026 show over public order concerns tied directly to his antisemitic history.

Ye did attempt damage control.

He met with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto in New York and took out a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal, claiming he’d “lost touch with reality” and blaming bipolar disorder for his actions.

He said he wasn’t a Nazi or an antisemite. But the Jewish community largely rejected the apology. Many Jewish groups remained unmoved, with some saying that a real apology would involve concrete actions, not just words and a meeting with a rabbi.

But some shows did go forward. His Tampa shows in June 2026 took place despite Florida leaders demanding their cancellation, and his San Antonio Alamodome concert on July 4 pulled in $9 million despite massive local opposition.

Now he’s got the Tirana show on July 11, followed by Madrid on July 30, Algarve on August 7, and two nights at Chicago’s Soldier Field in September.

Ye’s comeback tour is moving forward despite the controversy, proving that some venues and governments are willing to take the heat for the money.

Rama’s Facebook post was immediately flooded with angry comments from Albanians who felt their country was being disgraced by hosting someone with Ye’s record, especially as the nation’s already dealing with massive protests over corruption allegations and controversial development projects.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Rama, who’s facing daily demonstrations demanding his resignation over a Jared Kushner resort deal and other coastal development plans near protected areas.
