Hip-Hop Legend AZ Calls AI Theft, Launches Creator Rights Platform
Published

AZ is now a founding partner and part-owner at PLMMarket, demanding AI systems pay creators for using their work and recruiting 100 experts to join the movement.
AZ is taking control of his own digital legacy by joining PLMMarket.com as a founding partner and part-owner, marking a major shift in how Hip-Hop artists are reclaiming their intellectual property in the AI era.
The legendary rapper announced the partnership to his 1.4 million social media followers, positioning himself as the platform’s first flagship expert and launching a nationwide search for 100 additional creators and professionals to join the movement.
His message was direct and uncompromising: artificial intelligence has been profiting off artists’ work for a decade without compensation, and that era is ending now.
“Artificial intelligence have been feeding off our thoughts, our stories, our lyrics, our legacy, paying nothing,” AZ declared in a powerful video statement. “They call it progress, I call it theft. It’s time for a fix.”

The 30-year Hip-Hop veteran, whose foundational contributions to Nas’ Illmatic and his own classic albums Doe or Die and The Album with rap supergroup The Firm helped define East Coast rap, framed this partnership as the logical next step in protecting creator rights.
He emphasized his dual role: “I’m not just an artist anymore. I’m a founding partner at plmmarket.com. I’m not just a client, I’m one of the owners.”
PLMMarket operates through Professional Language Models, precision AI tools built on Retrieval-Augmented Generation technology that pulls directly from verified source material without hallucinations or unauthorized scraping.
When frontier AI systems access registered expertise, royalty events trigger automatic payments split three ways: 70 percent to the knowledge creator, 20 percent to the node provider, and 10 percent to the platform.
AZ described his own PLM as a “living, queryable digital asset, built from my knowledge, my words, my truth,” with every answer traced directly back to his original sources.
Brad Jones, founder of PLM Inc., called AZ’s involvement a “massive validation of our mission,” noting that his ability to mobilize millions of followers and speak truth to power provides exactly the catalyst needed to recruit the First 100 experts.
The Durham, North Carolina-based company is actively recruiting across all industries.
Creator rights advocates have long warned about AI training on unlicensed content, making AZ’s partnership a watershed moment for the industry.
Philip Bridgeman, co-founder and chief innovation officer at PLM Inc., explained the philosophy behind the model: “Intelligence is like a tree. Human expertise, captured as PLMs, is the root system. AZ’s partnership helps us rapidly expand that root system.”
Professionals and creators interested in joining the First 100 can apply directly at PLMMarket.com, with AZ identifying himself as Number 001 to set the standard for what founding partnership means.
The platform’s revenue model ensures that every transaction generates immediate compensation for creators, fundamentally shifting the economics of AI-generated value away from corporations and back toward the humans whose knowledge powers these systems.
