Texas Roadhouse customer says this is the secret to getting a better steak for the same price: ‘Go back and see if it’s really gone’

‘I was today years old when I found out it’s the same price.’
A man went to Texas Roadhouse to get a steak. Then he realized there was a simple, easy way to get a better cut without having to pay more.
TikTok content creator Foodrollup (@foodrollup) posted a video that received more than 675,000 views. In it, he posted a conversation he had with a Texas Roadhouse employee regarding the chain’s hand-cut steaks.
How to Get the Best Steak at Texas Roadhouse
Foodrollup shared a simple hack to get the “same price, BETTER STEAK” at Texas Roadhouse. His solution? Simply pick a steak at the restaurant’s famous meat case that’s thicker than the rest.
In Foodrollup’s video, he asked an employee how selecting a steak at the meat case worked. The employee explained that the content creator could pick out whatever he wanted—free of charge.

The employee told Foodrollup that if there was any cut that he wanted that wasn’t available, he could simply ask for a meat cutter to cut it for him. She also let the content creator know that they also had some “specialty ribeyes” he could select.
The content creator then asked if selecting one of the hand-cut steaks at the front would be extra.
“Everything’s the same price. There’s no upcharge or something … It’s just allowing you to pick yourself,” the employee said.
Foodrollup then proceeded to pick out some steaks, and the employee told him they would arrive at his table.
Texas Roadhouse’s Famous Hand-Cut Steaks
Texas Roadhouse has become a hotspot destination across the country. To many, it’s for good reason. The company’s fact sheet says that it makes all of its fixings—such as bacon bits and even dressings—from scratch. In addition, each Texas Roadhouse location employs a baker and a meat cutter. The baker prepares the restaurant chain’s famous yeast rolls. The meat cutter works in “34-degree coolers” to prepare the company’s famous hand-cut steaks, both for customers to pick out and for regular service.
Some customers, however, said they never realized that Texas Roadhouse allows customers to hand-select the protein that goes alongside their meal.
“I never knew you could pick a steak in the million times I’ve been there,” one viewer said.
Chowhound recommends that customers look at the steak case before heading to their table, as they can select what size steak they’d like. It’s worth noting that the steaks inside the meat case have pre-fixed prices for certain sizes, so customers won’t likely end up with a larger portion.
While viewers mentioned that Texas Roadhouse charges more per ounce for ginormous steaks, the selection process can technically result in a slightly thicker steak, or at the very least, a more personalized meal.
