Keefe D’s 2008 Police Statements Will Be Used Against Him During Tupac Murder Trial

Keefe D’s legal team just lost a major battle when a judge ruled his controversial 2008 police interview is admissible in his Tupac murder trial.

Keefe D just got the worst possible news before his trial starts next month in Las Vegas.

A judge ruled that a controversial 2008 police interview he gave is now admissible as evidence against him, which means prosecutors can use his own words to build their case.

Judge Carli Kierny made the decision on July 28, 2026, clearing the way for the recording to be presented when his trial begins August 10.

The 63-year-old is facing life in prison without parole if convicted of orchestrating the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur.

Keefe D’s defense team fought hard to keep that interview sealed, arguing that detectives promised him it would never be used against him in court.

His attorney Michael Sanft claimed the whole situation was coercive and that his client was essentially forced into making statements because he feared for his family’s safety.

But the judge disagreed, finding that Keefe D wasn’t isolated or inexperienced when he spoke to law enforcement, and he had legal representation present during the conversation.

That ruling basically eliminated one of his strongest defenses before the trial even started.

The real problem for Keefe D is his 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend,” where he detailed his rise as a shot caller for the Southside Compton Crips and his involvement in major crimes across Southern California.

In that book, he described being in the Cadillac the night Tupac got shot and said he provided the weapon used in the killing. He claimed his nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson pulled the trigger, but Anderson died in an unrelated gang shooting in Compton before he could ever be charged.

Keefe D was arrested in September 2023 after decades of the case sitting cold.

Now here’s where it gets tricky for his legal strategy.

Keefe D’s defense is trying to argue that everything he said in his book and in media interviews was just entertainment, that he was lying to sell copies and get attention.

His lawyer told the court that you can’t take statements made for profit seriously, that they’re not confessions but rather promotional material.

The problem is that prosecutors are using his own detailed accounts to prove he was actually there and involved in the planning.

The case has drawn massive media attention since Tupac’s death in September 1996 remains one of hip-hop’s most infamous unsolved murders.

Tupac was shot multiple times on September 7, 1996, and died six days later at age 25, while Suge Knight survived with minor injuries from the drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip.

The trial is expected to last about four weeks, and prosecutors are confident they can prove Keefe D orchestrated the entire operation that night.
