Massive Attack Members Banned From Singapore Over Palestinian Flag

Massive Attack members face reentry bans and a continuing license probe after raising a Palestinian flag during a Singapore concert.
Massive Attack faces a Singapore ban after authorities punished its members for raising a Palestinian flag and backing Gaza onstage.
Massive Attack performed Wednesday at The Star Theatre, where two members displayed the flag as the crowd cheered.
One member also shouted “Free Palestine,” while concertgoers reportedly joined the chant during the politically charged finale.
Singapore authorities said police investigated two members for supporting a political cause and displaying a foreign national emblem without permission.

“The police take a serious view of acts which could potentially harm the racial and religious harmony in Singapore and urge the public, including foreigners, to refrain from importing foreign politics as this can undermine our social cohesion and the rule of law,” authorities said.
Both men received stern warnings and reentry bans, while regulators said future applications for Massive Attack performances would be rejected.
The investigation began after reports were lodged, while the media authority separately reviewed whether the concert broke license terms barring flags for causes.
Massive Attack has spent years pairing its dark, genre-bending music with protests against war, surveillance and government power.
Last year, the group helped form an artists’ alliance after declaring Gaza had “moved beyond description” and accusing Israel of genocide.
That stand reflects a widening argument that Israel’s response to Hamas’ October 7 attack produced a severely lopsided human toll.
Hamas-led fighters killed roughly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and seized 251 hostages during the 2023 assault on southern Israel. By July 29, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 73,333 Palestinian deaths, more than 61 times the October 7 figure.
The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants, although United Nations reporting attributes its casualty figures directly to the agency.
Israel says its forces target militants and denies genocide or war crimes, while attacks have continued despite an October 2025 ceasefire.
The International Criminal Court issued a 2024 warrant accusing Netanyahu of alleged war crimes, though Israel rejects the court’s authority.
The episode follows AllHipHop’s coverage of Kneecap, another act punished after turning support for Palestinians into a public flashpoint.
Netanyahu is preparing to address the September United Nations gathering in New York after meeting with Trump in Washington, while Mayor Zohran Mamdani wants federal authorities to execute the warrant.
