Cam’ron Seems To Diss Dapper Dan, Dan Responds Angrily

Cam’ron & Freekey Zeke joked about Dapper Dan… but Dap actually responded. 👀 Harlem legends going at each other wasn’t on my bingo card. Was this comedy or disrespect?
I don’t know who peed in Cam’ron and Freekey Zeke’s cereal this morning, but for some reason they decided to go at Dapper Dan.
First things first, all these guys are from Harlem.
If you don’t know who Dapper Dan is, let me help you out. Dapper Dan is the prototype for modern Hip-Hop fashion. Long before luxury brands embraced rappers, athletes and entertainers, Dapper Dan was custom-making one-of-one pieces using Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, MCM and other iconic logos. Throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, his boutique became the place where Hip-Hop stars, hustlers, athletes and entertainers went to create a look that nobody else had.
Ironically, the same luxury brands that eventually embraced Hip-Hop were the ones that shut his business down. Years later, the fashion world admitted its mistake. Gucci even partnered with Dapper Dan to open a new atelier in Harlem, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential fashion designers in Hip-Hop history.

That’s why I was surprised to hear what happened on Talk With Flee.
For whatever reason, Cam’ron and Freekey Zeke took shots at Dapper Dan. They even compared him to Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather, the flamboyant movie critics from the classic In Living Color sketch “Men on Film.” It felt random, and honestly, I don’t know what sparked it.
Apparently someone else made the joke first, and maybe it was just a slow news day, but Cam and Zeke decided to run with it. Then something happened that I definitely didn’t expect.
Dapper Dan jumped into the comments.
And he wasn’t laughing.
“yo!!! Cam!!! Usually I ignore young stuff But you from Harlem. Have a conversation about what I teach. And why you repping Harlem backwards? How I dress myself Is not how I set the stage for how I dress your generation or the ones after. I find it hard to understand how Harlem influencers will sell their own generation out or my generation. Y’all are launching lethal attacks against each other. Do you realize what you’re doing towards the unity of Harlem?
we put together Paid in Full, clothes and culture wise. People talk about it worldwide to this day!! How can you turn and diss the creator who helped push the Harlem agenda forward. I usually don’t like doing podcast, but I think it’s time I do one with you and address to Harlem issues.”

Dap made it clear he didn’t appreciate the disrespect. His point was simple: they’re all Harlem legends, so why throw shade at one another? Instead of letting the jokes slide, he responded directly, making it known that he wasn’t feeling the commentary one bit.
For the record, I’ve always respected Dapper Dan’s style. He’s original. He’s authentic. He’s a true individual. There really isn’t anyone else in Hip-Hop fashion who has done what he’s done. He’s a genuine one-of-one.
Now, maybe there’s some old Harlem history between these guys that the public doesn’t know about. Maybe this goes back decades and is only now resurfacing because everything becomes content these days. Or maybe it was just jokes that landed the wrong way.
Either way, this could get messy if it keeps going. I hope they have him.
Dapper Dan’s influence extends far beyond clothing. His work helped redefine what luxury meant to Black culture and Hip-Hop at a time when major fashion houses wanted nothing to do with the community. Today, collaborations between luxury brands and rap artists are common, but much of that blueprint can be traced back to the Harlem designer who refused to wait for acceptance. His story has become one of reinvention, resilience and cultural ownership, making him one of the most important figures in both fashion and Hip-Hop history.
What do you think? Was Cam’ron and Freekey Zeke just joking around, or did they cross the line by taking shots at a Harlem icon? Share your thoughts in the comments.
