INTERVIEW
Behind The Scenes With Ashia Ackov

Today we had a chance to interview the upcoming artist, Ashia Ackov
Who do people say you sound like?
The funniest thing that happened was when I was doing a live review show and my
music was streaming. In the comments, there were people like “Who is this Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson, Sade??” Little did they know, those are 3 of my favorite female artists. I wasn’t trying to sound like any of them, but I was extremely flattered.
Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
It was the 90s and Janet Jackson came out with this banging new
album called “Janet”. From the cover art to the prelude the whole production was amazing. Even though I was too young to
understand anything about what she was expressing, It was seductive and it seduced me.
What is still your biggest challenge?
Finding fans, reaching people. I do not want a million fans. I mean that would be awesome, but 50 solid fans who will rock out with me, support me, follow me, save my music, stream, and share… well hey,
that’s worth more than Gold!
What makes you stand out?
I have a quiet lush voice. My style is like a whisper almost like you’re singing a little sexy
something in your man’s ear. That is my style.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Good Question! I am fusing two of my favorite Genres which is
Jazz and Bossa Nova. I call it “Bossy Jazz”. Lol. Well, I am quite fond of both but if I can fuse them and add my twist, that is what you would have from me.
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your music?
I have lots of compliments. It is hard to know if they are
sincere. My favorite was a young man who told me that my song helped him get over a break-up with his girlfriend. That was so cool. I never thought a love song could really cure a broken heart.
What is your favorite song to perform?
“The Sexiest Night With You”. Also, might I mention, quite popular for streaming. It
could be the video I made for it, lol. But I do enjoy singing and hearing other people singing along to it too. I must admit, I am a sucker for a Chicago 2-step.
What’s your latest release?
Moonlight. This song is a version of my “Bossy Jazz” trend. I hope you all like it because it will be a while before I release anything more.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Brijean Murphy. I think she sounds a lot like me and it would be cool to vibe
with her in the studio to see what we come up with.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Do more to help the underdogs. Yes, I am well aware that I am a little fish in a big pond but please, we deserve a chance to be playlisted, charted, shared, and celebrated just as much as big-name artists. I have always been a girl who loves Indie Performers growing up. There are so many talented people who are just as good, if not better than what we see on TV or hear on the Radio, that should have exposure too. I don’t mean myself, I mean those like me. Give us a chance, we just might grow on ya.
