Joey Badass credits his natural charisma for seamlessly transitioning from Hip-Hop to acting on Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

The Brooklyn rapper opened up about his five-year journey playing Unique on the hit Starz series, which is heading into its final season.

Badass said the production quality and family atmosphere on set made it the best experience of his career in film and television.

“I think one of my special abilities has always been my charisma,” Badass explained. “So, I think I was able to naturally take that from my artistry. This is all artistry. We get on that stage, channel the energy, and give them that vibe. It’s the same thing when you get in front of that camera, channel energy, give them that vibe, you know what I mean?”

The rapper emphasized that both demand channeling emotion and connecting with an audience, whether that’s a crowd at a concert or viewers watching a television show.

Badass’ character, Unique, underwent significant changes throughout the series, transforming from a powerful figure into a pariah. When asked what fans can expect from the character in the final season, Badass teased more surprises ahead.

“Well, I think one of the great things about Unique and what’s made this character so fire, so beloved, so attractable is his unpredictability,” Badass said. “So, expect the unexpected.”

His growth as an actor over the five seasons has been remarkable, with critics and fans praising his ability to imbue the complex character of Unique with depth and charisma.
