Marcellus Wiley’s holiday weekend took a dark turn when he was arrested in Florida on a domestic battery charge and held without bond.
Marcellus Wiley spent his Fourth of July weekend in an Orange County, Florida jail cell after being booked on a domestic battery charge, marking another turbulent chapter for the former NFL star and broadcaster.
The 51-year-old was arrested on July 4 and remains in custody without bond, though specific details about the incident haven’t been released yet.
This arrest comes just months after he faced sexual assault allegations from four accusers, which he denied on his podcast in May, claiming they were attempting “assassination by accusation.”
His path to this moment started decades earlier when the Buffalo Bills selected him in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft.
Over nearly a decade in professional football, Wiley suited up for the Bills, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Jacksonville Jaguars, establishing himself as a formidable defensive end.
The 2001 Pro Bowl selection recorded 13 sacks that season with the Chargers, cementing his status as one of the league’s more productive pass rushers during his era.
After hanging up his cleats, Wiley transitioned into broadcasting and became a recognizable face across sports television.
He spent 11 years at ESPN co-hosting the popular debate show SportsNation and hosting radio programming on ESPNLA 710AM.
According to TMZ, he later moved to Fox Sports where he continued hosting debate-format shows before departing in 2022.
His media presence extended to podcasting, where he’s maintained a platform called “Dat Dude TV” to discuss sports and broadcasting industry topics.
The arrest represents a significant escalation in Wiley’s legal troubles this year.
In April, four women filed allegations of sexual assault against him, with one accuser claiming incidents dating back to their time at Columbia University in the 1990s.
Wiley responded by denying all allegations and asserting he had evidence to contradict the claims, but the legal pressure has continued mounting.
His representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the domestic battery charge.
