Charlamagne Tha God Weighs In On What Jay-Z Should Do

Could Jay-Z revive “Takeover” for a new generation, or is Charlamagne simply speaking every Hip-Hop fan’s wish into existence?
I have been pretty clear on what Jay-Z SHOULD do for these concerts he has lined up. Well, so does Charlamagne Tha God.
Jay-Z is likely sitting on another surprise and Charlamagne Tha God just threw his opinion in on what should happen the Roc mogul steps onstage at Yankee Stadium.
With three hometown shows scheduled for July 10 through July 12 – anticipation is already at a fever pitch. We were there when Jay-Z stunned fans with his headline-grabbing performance at the Roots Picnic. Yeah, we got a mostly State Property reunion, but something else is afoot for New York. The question is what trick does he have up his sleeve this time?
Charlamagne thinks he knows one possibility.
During a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, the radio personality floated the idea that Jay-Z could create a 2026 version of “Takeover.” Of course, the original took aim at Nas and Mobb Deep and truly sparked one of rap’s most unforgettable battles. Times have changed, though. Nas and Jay-Z are at peace and Prodigy is no longer with us. I wish Jay and P could have made peace.
“He’s not going to be going at Mobb Deep or Nas. God bless the dead, rest in peace, Prodigy. Like so, there’s a way he could flip that… he’s either going to skip it or he could do an updated 2026 version of ‘Takeover.’” Charlamagne could be on to something.
Now that’s an interesting thought.
People are here for it or they are not here for it. I am thinking at this ripe age, he could just release a new album and let that rock. We can decode that easily too. Running back a diss record because a few people have taken shots is probably not the way to go. The freestyle at the Roots jawn was good enough.
He took shots at Drake, Nicki Minaj and Dame Dash, among others.
So could Charlamagne actually be onto something? Or are we past that?
If Jay-Z wanted to update “Takeover,” there would certainly be no shortage of names but do we want that from the man that gave us 444? Jigga has always moved in silence until the perfect moment arrives. If there is no new music, I think he will save that.
Yankee Stadium is more than just another concert. It’s home field. If Jay-Z has something to say, there may not be a bigger stage to say it on.
We’ll find out soon enough. Tomorrow.
