EXCLUSIVE: Uncle Luke Blasts Debbie Wasserman Schultz & Targets Congressional Black Caucus Over Florida Primary
Published

Uncle Luke challenges Debbie Wasserman Schultz for a historic Black-held congressional seat ahead of Florida’s August primary.
Uncle Luke is battling a political heavyweight for a South Florida congressional seat that has been represented by Black lawmakers for more than three decades.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, an 11-term incumbent representing Florida’s 25th Congressional District, entered the Democratic primary for the newly redrawn 20th District.
Wasserman Schultz lives inside the newly drawn 22nd District, which leans Republican, while District 20 remains Florida’s safest Democratic congressional seat.
The Black-plurality district traces its history of Black representation to Alcee Hastings’ 1992 election, with Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick most recently holding the seat.

Wasserman Schultz’s campaign has faced resistance from Black Democrats, but she continues to present herself as an experienced advocate for Broward County.
Luke is challenging the Congressional Black Caucus over its silence, which he views as tacit approval of Wasserman Schultz’s campaign.
“Their silence gives her the opportunity to run around telling, in my opinion lies that, you know, they support her. They support her doing this which is again erasing another African-American seat to be represented by an African-American district,” Luke said in an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.
Campaign finance records show Wasserman Schultz had approximately $2.8 million available through June 30, compared with about $81,700 for Luke.
Wasserman Schultz told WFOR-TV that district residents “know I know our community” and promised to use her seniority and influence in Washington.
The campaigns present a stark financial contrast as Luke relies heavily upon grassroots donors and volunteer support against an established incumbent.
Luke promotes $5 grassroots donations and volunteer support, although federal records show his campaign accepts individual contributions in other amounts.
“We need fighters, we need leader. We need people to go to Congress to represent us. We are the seniors, we are our culture, our Hip-Hop culture is the leaders right now. We are the consumer. We are the people who own homes. We are the people who are paying taxes in this country. We are the workers. We are the people…It’s us that makes the decision the decisions that need to be made,” Luke explained.
Luke, Cherfilus-McCormick, Dale Holness and Elijah Manley are the four Black candidates challenging Wasserman Schultz in the Democratic primary.
Some contenders have discussed consolidating behind fewer candidates to avoid splitting Black support, although no agreement has been publicly announced.
Luke’s federal investment platform seeks $5 billion for port expansion, $1 billion for housing and hundreds of millions for additional community programs.
He framed that agenda during an earlier AllHipHop interview as a community-first alternative to career politicians and Washington feuds.
Florida’s Democratic primary takes place August 18, when District 20 voters will choose among the five candidates.
