Wyclef Jean Reacts To Disappointing End Of Fugees Diaspora Calling Set

Wyclef Jean expresses disappointment after the Fugees’ Milton Keynes set gets cut short by venue curfew, vowing to return next year.
Wyclef Jean addressed the chaos that unfolded when the Fugees’ headline set at Milton Keynes National Bowl got cut short due to venue licensing restrictions on August 7, 2026.
The 11 P.M. curfew forced organizers to pull the plug just as the legendary trio was gaining momentum, leaving thousands of disappointed attendees booing as microphones went dead and screens went black.
“We’re really sad how it ended,” Wyclef told reporters after the show. “We was just getting started, so we’re hoping to continue next year.”
The frustration was real because the group had barely scratched the surface of their catalog, unable to perform classics like “Killing Me Softly” that fans traveled to hear.

According to The Sun, Lauryn Hill and her sons performed earlier in the evening, which ate into the Fugees’ limited time to deliver their set.
Despite the abrupt ending, Wyclef emphasized what the reunion meant beyond just one night.
“We had so much surprises on the line up and everybody showed up and we really felt the crowd, that love and that energy, it’s something that they need, something they feel, it just reminds you of unity. With so much division, the diaspora calling is just to remind everybody to come together.”
The energy between Hill and Jean reflected months of healing that the pair discussed with the BBC, with Hill stating there was “an incredible healing process that happened with us as a band and as bandmates.”
Wyclef added they’re “in an amazing place” and that “all I can tell you is, man, we’re in God’s hands.”
The reunion carries added weight because the group’s third member, Pras Michel, is currently serving a 14-year federal prison sentence following his 2023 conviction on money laundering and campaign finance violations.
Pras was found guilty of illegally funneling millions of dollars in foreign contributions to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign and lobbying on behalf of China’s government without proper registration.
Any real Fugees reunion with all three members remains impossible until he completes his sentence.
The Fugees released two studio albums as a group: Blunted on Reality in 1994 and The Score in 1996, with the latter becoming one of Hip-Hop’s best-selling records ever at approximately 22 million copies sold worldwide.
